State of the Walbert

Written on 2004-01-23, at 1:39 p.m.

Today marks mini-Walbert's fifteenth year of existence. Go forth, and wish her well.

Classes are shaping up relatively nicely. I never got to switch from American History I to II, which is unfortunate, but the teacher's pretty cool so it's all working out. I'm one of the only people who talks in either his AHI class or Western Civ II class (and the only reason I talk is because the silence at his questions just pisses me off), so he's taking a liking to me, which should prove in my favor.

Spanish 102 continues to shape up well, and at least I know someone in the class (Anna, the third-in-command of the occasionally mentioned independent media club). Well, technically, I know two people, but I probably shouldn't count Ryan Finley. The Spanish teacher continues to use idioms, and in general, she seems relatively calm and cool. A couple of guys in the back of the room were being jackasses during class, and instead of yelling at them or chewing them out she just made fun of them. Most excellent.

Astronomy is shaping up as well. Her rapid speaking style slowed down considerably once she got out of the preliminary chapter. It's easy to keep up, the coursework fascinates me, and I guess I can't complain.

Psychology is just plain fun. First we had to commit everyone's name to memory, now we're just doing presentations on ourselves (to give each name context). Rex is cool, so it's all good.

It's been nearly two weeks, and I still have not heard from my World Religions instructor. Since I'm taking the course online, I need a login and password, and he's not responding to my requests for one. Hmmm...

Went in for one-week post-op check-up yesterday. Everything, so they say, looks normal, which is good. I'm not going to go blind anytime soon. Meanwhile, the starburst effect (of headlights and what have you) hasn't dwindled, and my light sensitivity is still slightly out of whack, but hey, I can see.

Chip, guy from Center City School of Bartending, insists that he'll have some job leads by next week. He better, because I'm going down next Monday to chew him out in person.

Meanwhile, must come up with reasonable costume for Katsucon next month. Am considering Charles of Penny Arcade which would give me a legitimate excuse to walk around with Daedalus and Icarus the entire con (since I'm likely to do that, anyway), though this would require the bleaching of my hair which may or may not be a bad thing, at least, temporarily. Am considering various other options, and I have a little less than a month to sift through them.

Meanwhile, on account of it being her birthday, mini-Walbert apparently wants to tour South Street. Don't know how she got that idea into her head, but showing her around might very well occupy my evening; I'll have to see.

Meanwhile, I have an hour to kill before Becky gets here to discuss the DC3 independent media schtick. Don't know how productive that will be, since she and I will probably be the only ones who make it to this (Anna has some other thing that she needs to attend to), but hopefully something will come of it. The voter registration schtick (god, I love that word) will work out, hopefully.... we'll see as the term progresses.

In case it isn't obvious, I'm not doing much more than babbling right now to fill up time.

Howard Dean and his wife,by the way, are the cutest thing since.... well, since something pretty damn cute, anyway.

I should probably get off and do crap now, so, that is what I shall do.
